What is Saju?
Saju (사주), often translated as the Four Pillars of Destiny, is a traditional East Asian birth-chart system widely used in Korea. It interprets the year, month, day and hour of birth through ten Heavenly Stems, twelve Earthly Branches and the Five Elements.
Why “Four Pillars”?
Your birth information is organized into four pillars: year, month, day and hour. Each pillar contains two characters, creating the eight characters often called saju palja (사주팔자).
The Five Elements
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water describe different qualities and relationships within the chart. A reading looks at how strongly they appear, how they support or control one another, and how that balance changes over time.
What is a Day Master?
The Heavenly Stem of the day pillar is called the Day Master. It is one of the central reference points used when interpreting the rest of the chart. It is not simply a personality label; its meaning depends on the complete chart and season.
What can a Saju reading explore?
Traditional readings commonly discuss temperament, relationships, career and wealth patterns, as well as longer luck cycles. Saju should be treated as an interpretive tradition rather than a scientifically validated method for predicting the future.
